Northwest Exteriors Fresno, California
There’s a moment every Fresno homeowner eventually hits — you press your hand against the glass on a 108-degree July afternoon and feel that wave of heat pushing right through. Or you notice the paint on your window sill is bubbling. Or your energy bill climbs another $40 and you’re not sure exactly why, but the answer is staring at you from across the living room.
That’s the moment replacement windows stop being a someday project and become a right-now decision. Northwest Exteriors has been helping Central Valley homeowners make that call — and get it right — for over 20 years. We install replacement windows throughout Fresno, CA, from Tower District bungalows to newer builds out in Clovis East, and everything in between.
This page walks you through everything you need to know: why Fresno’s climate demands more from your windows than almost anywhere else in California, what options actually make sense for this market, and what it looks like to work with us from first call to final walkthrough.
The Central Valley is not a gentle climate. Fresno averages over 100 days above 90°F every year, with heat regularly pushing past 108°F in peak summer. UV radiation at this latitude degrades vinyl frames, degrades glazing seals, and causes the wood components in older windows to warp and crack. Then winter brings cold mornings in the high 20s — a 70+ degree swing your windows have to handle daily without losing their seal integrity.
Standard builder-grade windows installed in the 1990s and early 2000s were never designed for this. Most of them use single-pane or basic double-pane glass with aluminum frames — aluminum being one of the most thermally conductive materials you can put in a wall. Every hour those windows are exposed to direct afternoon sun, they’re actively pulling heat into your home and making your AC work overtime.
The windows we install are engineered specifically for high-heat, high-UV environments. Here’s what that actually means in practice:
The result: homeowners who replace their full window sets with us consistently report energy savings of 20–30% on cooling costs. In a Fresno summer, that adds up fast.
We offer every major window type, and we’ll help you figure out which combination actually makes sense for your home’s layout, ventilation needs, and architectural style. Here’s a quick rundown:
The most common choice for Fresno homes. Both sashes slide up and down independently, which gives you two ventilation options in one unit — open the bottom for air in, tilt the top for heat to escape. They’re easy to clean from inside (no ladder needed) and work with virtually any home style from Old Fig Garden Craftsmans to newer tract homes in Woodward Park.
Hinged on the side and cranked open outward, casements create a full-opening effect that captures cross breezes exceptionally well. Because they close against the frame with a compression seal, they’re also one of the tightest-sealing window types available — a real advantage in an air-conditioned home. Popular for kitchens and bedrooms.
A smart choice for wider openings, garages converted to living space, or anywhere you want a low-profile look. They operate smoothly, require minimal maintenance, and carry the same energy performance as our other lines.
Fixed glass — no opening mechanism — which means maximum glass area, maximum natural light, and the cleanest visual line possible. Often paired with operable windows on either side. A popular upgrade for living rooms facing east or northeast, where morning light comes in without the brutal afternoon west-sun load.
Three or more windows angled outward from the wall to create a small alcove. They add visual interest to the exterior, bring in light from multiple angles, and create useful interior shelf space. A significant curb appeal upgrade on the right home.
Hinged at the top and opening outward from the bottom, awning windows let you catch airflow even during light rain — the glass acts as an awning. Common in bathrooms and high on walls where ventilation matters but full-swing access isn’t practical.
We’ve done this thousands of times across the Central Valley. The process is tighter than most homeowners expect, and we work hard to keep it that way.
One of our project managers comes to your home, evaluates every window opening, and gives you a complete quote on the spot. No pressure tactics, no expiring-today pricing games. You get accurate numbers for exactly the scope of work you want done.
Your windows are built to the exact measurements of your openings — not pulled from a warehouse shelf and shimmed to fit. This matters more than most homeowners realize. An off-the-shelf window fit with filler and caulk will never seal or perform the way a custom-manufactured unit will.
Our licensed installers show up on time, protect your floors and furniture, remove the old windows, set the new units in sealed openings, and verify operation before they leave. Most full-home jobs complete in one to two days. We pull all required Fresno permits so you don’t have to deal with that side of it.
We walk every window with you, demonstrate operation, confirm the seals, and answer questions. Then we leave you with a written summary of your warranty coverage — both the Anlin manufacturer’s lifetime warranty and our 10-year labor warranty.
“Their bid came in thousands lower than other bids and they were great with communication. Bryce was the main installer for the job. He was quick, clean and respectful of our home. I have and will continue to recommend Northwest Exterior for window installation to family and friends.” — Brittany W., Fresno area
“The service was great. They addressed any comments I had. They provided all the information regarding the warranty. The permitting process was smooth. Everything was great, especially the customer service.” — Jasper M., Fresno area
“I have recommended them to many people. I am very happy with the people they sent to do the work and the quality of the windows.” — Linda K., Fresno area
Yes — and this is one of the most important things to understand before you buy. Standard clear double-pane glass has a Solar Heat Gain Coefficient (SHGC) of around 0.70, meaning it lets 70% of the sun’s radiant heat into your home. For a climate like Fresno’s, you want low-e glass with an SHGC in the 0.22–0.30 range. That single specification change can reduce cooling load dramatically. We select glass packages specifically rated for California’s climate zones, and Fresno falls into one of the more demanding zones in the state. Don’t let anyone sell you generic low-e without discussing SHGC for your specific home orientation.
It depends on the scope of work. Like-for-like window replacement — same opening size, no structural changes — typically does not require a permit in Fresno. However, if you’re changing opening dimensions, adding a window where none existed, or the work involves any framing changes, a permit is required. Northwest Exteriors handles permit coordination for all jobs that require it, so you don’t have to navigate the City of Fresno Building and Safety Department on your own. We’ve done this many times — it’s not a hurdle for us.
For a standard double-hung or casement window fully installed, budget $600–$1,500 per unit depending on size, glass package, and frame material. A whole-home replacement for a typical Fresno single-story ranges from $6,000–$18,000 depending on window count and specifications. We give you a complete itemized quote at the free estimate — no ranges, no surprises. Financing is available for qualified homeowners, including zero-interest options on qualifying projects.
We install Anlin windows, which are manufactured in California specifically for the West Coast climate. Anlin’s product line is built around California’s Title 24 energy code requirements and tested for performance in high-heat, high-UV environments. Their lifetime warranty covers glass seal failure, hardware, and frame integrity — not a 10-year or 20-year window dressed up as “lifetime.” For Fresno conditions specifically, we typically recommend their Catalina or Del Mar series depending on your home’s sun orientation and existing framing.
Most full-home jobs — 10 to 20 windows — complete in one to two days. A smaller job of 3–6 windows typically wraps in a single day. We work efficiently and we don’t drag jobs across multiple weeks the way some contractors do. Your home will be secure and fully functional at the end of each day, even if work continues the next morning.
Yes. PG&E offers rebates through their Energy Upgrade California program for qualifying window replacements. To qualify, the new windows typically need to meet specific U-factor and SHGC thresholds — which ours do. The rebate amounts change periodically, but we help you identify what’s currently available and can assist with the paperwork. California also offers a Residential Energy Tax Credit for qualifying improvements. Ask about current incentives during your estimate.
Fogging between the glass panes means the insulating gas seal has failed. The argon or air between the panes has been replaced by moist air, and that moisture condenses when temperatures shift. At that point the window has lost its thermal performance — it’s essentially a single-pane window doing the work of two. In most cases, individual sash replacement (replacing just the glass unit, not the whole frame) is possible if the frame is still in good condition and structurally sound. However, if the frames are more than 15–20 years old, deteriorating, or if multiple units are failing, full replacement is almost always the better long-term investment. We’ll give you an honest assessment during the estimate.
